EBT

New with this version, Verifone Commander software now supports EBT processing. Sites running a Verifone Commander no longer need a stand-alone countertop EBT machine and can now process these through the Phillips 66 network with direct settlement, along with all other cards and mobile payment transactions. Sites will need an active FNS number from their state to enable EBT. To obtain an FNS number, if you do not have one or if yours is no longer active, visit the USDA website.

Follow these three steps to get started with EBT:

  1. Site must be running Verifone v53.40 software.
  2. Contact Phillips 66 Helpdesk to provide your FNS number for EBT processing and receive a PDL download.
  3. Configure your site(s)’ products to allow EBT tender where applicable.  Instructions on how to configure products can be found in the Verifone instruction sheet, or by calling the Verifone Helpdesk.

Additional information about EBT can also be found in the Phillips 66 Credit Card Guide on Bizlink. Call the Phillips 66 Helpdesk to get started now: 1-800-426-3696.

Contactless OEMV

As previously communicated, beginning March 1, 2023, all Visa contactless mag stripe data (MSD) transactions that originate at a dispenser will be disabled and will no longer work.  Sites with contactless readers in the dispenser will want to install this version in order to continue accepting contactless Visa after March 2023.

Software/PCI Compliance/EMV

Phillips 66 recommends that EPOS software be maintained to the most current update or at minimum must run an approved version listed on Bizlink. This v53.40 software is certified to the new PCI SSF standard and can be used by the sites to support their PCI compliance requirements. Software updates may require additional hardware updates and/or a technician visit to complete the upgrade and configurations. Completing hardware upgrades for Outside EMV remain as a marketer/site choice, however, the EMV liability for all chargebacks did shift to all sites on April 16, 2021.

All Commander versions prior to v53.40 will be considered “expired software” after 06/30/2023 and must be upgraded.  Sites running expired software after this date will be subject to non-compliance fees..

Hardware End-of-Sale/End-of-Life

Verifone has announced plans to stop sales on Ruby 2, Ruby Ci, Topaz 410, and Mx915 PINpad hardware mid-2023 with 3 years of support for any of these components. Sites purchasing new hardware should consider the Verifone C18 as the go forward hardware platform from Verifone for new installations.  Contact Verifone for more information at tony.pierce@verifone.com

Hardware Pairing required

Verifone POS workstations must be paired with the site controller before they can be used in all base 53 and higher software. The Pairing process creates a secure communication link between the Commander and each Verifone POS Workstation. The pairing process ensures that only Verifone POS equipment may communicate with the Commander.  Click here for more information, or discuss with your local Verifone technician.

MNSP

As with previous versions, a Managed Network Service Provider (MNSP) device must be installed prior to the software update. The MNSP device is a Verifone requirement and is available from Hughes or Sagenet at a cost of $399 for the device and $9.99 a month added to your monthly LinkSafe invoice.

To order or find out more information about the MNSP, contact your LinkSafe provider.
