Bring Your Own Broadband (BYOB) and Self-Installation Options Now Available!

Phillips 66 is excited to announce two new service offerings from our Linksafe MNSP providers, Hughes and SageNet; Bring your own broadband (BYOB), and Self-installation.  These new options may offer your site an enhanced connectivity experience and provide you greater flexibility and convenience for your branded site renewals, and new to brand sites.

Bring Your Own Broadband (BYOB) Considerations:

With the new option from Hughes and SageNet for BYOB service, you can now use your existing internet broadband connection as your primary network connection. While this allows you to leverage your current infrastructure, there are important considerations other than cost to keep in mind when considering this option:

  • Limited support: Any problems with a site-managed BYOB circuit must be handled by the marketer/site operator. Neither Phillips 66 nor the Linksafe providers (Hughes and SageNet) would troubleshoot the connection with the ISP in these situations.
  • Risk of Overage Charges: In the event of outages on the primary BYOB connection, the backup connection will activate.  If cellular backup is activated, and with it being a metered service; extended primary BYOB outages from the sites ISP will lead to increased usage of the backup service, potentially resulting in significant overage costs while on the backup connection.  In the event of a primary broadband outage, your Linksafe vendor may be able to help with limiting cellular backup usage if requested.  i.e. throttling speeds, etc.
  • Sufficient Bandwidth: It is recommended that sites choosing the BYOB model use a commercial broadband connection using a cable or fiber circuit with a minimum bandwidth of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Static IP addresses: Marketer/site should inform Hughes or SageNet at the time of order if static IP addresses are involved to avoid problems later.

Hughes and SageNet Self-Installation

At your Linksafe vendor discretion, marketers/sites can now connect Hughes or SageNet equipment using your own installation resources, making the setup process quicker and more flexible.  Equipment will be shipped to the site and a comprehensive setup guide and phone support will be provided to assist if needed. If further assistance is required, the site is directed to contact Hughes or SageNet to schedule a Professional Installation.

Note: After installing Hughes or SageNet equipment, a certified POS technician will still need to setup any new POS systems and infrastructure, or migrate the existing system. Sites should contact the Phillips 66 Help Desk at (800) 426-3696 to ensure that credit card transactions are processing successfully.

These new offerings are designed to provide more flexibility to help meet the evolving needs of marketers and site operators, and provide cost-effective solutions that are both practical and efficient. Phillips 66®, in partnership with our Linksafe vendors Hughes and SageNet, is committed to delivering high-quality services that enhance your connectivity and support your business operations.

For more information on either of these, please reach out directly to Hughes or SageNet.
